Fire to Forge Your Path

A growing conversation I have had for years with others in the yoga community revolves around the idea of carving or forging your own path through sheer determination.  In essence it's the old saying "where there's a will there's a way".  And, just maybe, if your will of passion is strong enough, then the universe will bend to that passion and open an energy pathway for your intention.  If true, this is pretty radical stuff and maybe the secret sauce of life.

In fact, I have always been afraid to believe in this notion the older I get.  It's actually easier not to believe.  Being a skeptic allows me to give the excuse that mediocrity and settling are a product of the whims of cruel fate that drives our collective destiny.  However, Dragon Warriors don't give up when obstacles get in the way.  They forge on and use their fire to open new channels of potential in their own lives and the lives of others.  That is what I'm trying to believe and live by more and more.

Despite the difficulty of belief in the power of your inner fire to forge paths, Yoga tells us all that we are called to a higher purpose or Dharma.  This Dharma is our end goal in life, the reason for our existence and perhaps some would add, the very outlet for our God-given gifts and potential.  The Dharma may not be reached initially.  In fact, it may take years or decades to manifest itself.  But the Dharma is always calling, waiting to be fulfilled.  Just like in Lord of the Rings how Sauron calls for the ring of power for they long to be reunited.  You and Dharma are like the less creepy version of that.  If only you could reach out, push a little and breathe a little fire, just maybe your passion to achieve would allow you to get there (and find the ring or not...)

The point is, since your path and you long to be unified, why not just use your fire to blast a hole in the fabric of the universe and make your way to the Dharma?  Easy right?  After all, would you not be satisfied in getting there?  I have a theory that the lack of Dharma or paths of purpose is what is ailing society more and more today, including myself.  Waves of frustration, depression and even health conditions may all be self-manifestations that could be easily cured by doing what we love.  Anyway, what do you have to lose by breathing a little fire?  The worst that could happen is you burn yourself a little bit by trying and get a cool battle scar along the way.  But trying is good, passion is good.  And one day, just maybe we'll forge the path that brings us to a place of unimaginable fulfillment.
